Responsibilities
The intern's responsibilities will vary, depending on the project workload and client needs. Typical responsibilities include the following:
Technical Analysis: Technical analysis is typically required for permit applications (air permits, industrial user pretreatment permits, hazardous waste permits etc.) and written contingency plans, such as spill pollution prevention plans and storm water pollution prevention plans. The intern would for instance calculate air emission rates, perform mixing zone calculations for receiving waters or evaluate control technologies.
Research of regulatory requirements: The intern would research current state and federal regulatory requirements, keep an eye out for updates and perform regulatory applicability determinations for our clients.
Field Investigation: The intern would assist with field work, for example indoor air investigations or environmental site assessments. Typical tasks would include air quality testing, groundwater and soil sampling.
Skills
Good oral and written communication skills, good computer-literacy, and independent thinking and working.
Background
A good technical background, a basic understanding of environmental regulations, and a working knowledge of chemistry are desirable.
